The fact that you chose “Black Privilege” as your title for this without actually telling any facts speaks a ton about who you really are. Go fuck yourself. Seriously.

Now, with that out of the way…

1. Gruden resigned. Certainly in lieu of being fired, but factually, he resigned.
2. It wasn’t just one “I misspoke” email from ten years ago. It was a whole string of racist, homophobic, misogynist, contrarian garbage spanning most of a decade and revealing exactly who he really is under the broadcaster smile.
3. In the 21st century, the majority of NFL players are black, the NFL is trying to increase player safety and the roles of women, the Raiders have the NFL’s first openly gay active player (DE Carl Nassib) and there are probably dozens of players in the league on the down low. Gruden’s comments therefore are professionally and socially unacceptable. If he hadn’t resigned, the Raiders absolutely would have had to fire him, because the NFLPA would have called for his head and I dare say that a player walkout might not have been out of the question.
4. After this, Gruden is probably done with sports for good. He’s certainly done in the NFL and he ain’t going back to a broadcast booth either, that’s for sure. He might turn up on a radio show someplace eventually after the bodies get cold, which in the internet era could take the rest of his life. But he can’t say he didn’t bring it on himself.
